GENERAL CAMP EQUIPMENT This list assumes one kitchen for group cooking and group packing. (No personal packs. Packs are designated by function).
Each tripper is expected to wear a fanny pack containing the following personal items:
PERSONAL ITEMS All the following items are placed in your personal stuff sack and then into dry bags. Be sure to read the equipment list and itinerary. Harmony and well being of the group are dependent on mutual cooperation.
*You be the judge of how much drink mix you want to consume. You will not need anything not on this list. For example, bath soap, shampoo, and toothpaste are supplied in camp equipment. Kleenex is your personal toilet paper. Bring enough but learn to use it sparingly. Wear your hiking boots at the start of the trip. Leave traveling shoes and large traveling pillow in the car.
**NOTE: Canada has minimum safety equipment for each canoe. Some canoe liveries charge extra for these items:
1 properly sized life jacket (PFD) for each person
Whistle or sound signaling device
Bailer
Fifty feet of buoyant throwing line
Denims: I have had BAD experiences with denims. They weigh a ton when wet and they are extremely hard to dry! When wet they cling and make movement difficult. Cottons are not good when wet. Nylons and polyester blends are best for being lightweight and fast drying. One of our trippers tried washing his jeans and carried them home wet 5 days later.
Please feel free to suggest items I may have forgotten. Questions, comments?
